Transition
Days

We warmly encourage all prospective students to attend our Transition Days, giving them the opportunity to experience our learning environment and become familiar with our curriculum.

In the first half of the year, we offer general Open Days for families to explore our school. Alongside these, we also run dedicated Transition Days designed specifically to support students as they prepare to join our community.

Cycle Calendar

At CIC we strive to be a little bit different. Our timetable runs on Cycles, rather than Terms. With 8 Cycles running over the year.

This allows students & educators to be refreshed and fully engaged for the whole cycle without running out of steam as the term progresses. School commences at the same time as other schools at the start of the year and finishes at the same time at the end of the year. The total number of days that students will be at school is roughly the same as at other independent schools.

Curriculum Implementation ~

CIC provides all students with a planned and structured curriculum, addressing the eight key learning areas (KLAs) of

the Victorian Curriculum F-10 v2, with a reflective best-practice and evidence-based approach that reflects our

school’s philosophy. CIC class time is structured into a weekly timetable with 5 hours of learning per day in 4 periods,

broken into each 75-minute session. CIC’s curriculum is designed to address the eight key learning areas of the

Victorian Curriculum.

The curriculum at CIC is underpinned by the following principles:

• Alignment with the Victorian Curriculum F–10 v2 and implementation of evidence-based curriculum and

pedagogical models.

• Explicit teaching of the eight key learning areas, to ensure that students develop essential skills that

support learning, wellbeing and practical life skills and creativity.

• Embedded social and emotional learning are integrated across the learning areas and reinforced

throughout the school that is inclusive and supportive learning environments that promote

safety, wellness and participation.

• Individualised learning pathways informed by assessment and documented, recognising that student

progress is based on assessed need and adjustable programming that allows learning to be adjusted in

response to individual progress, readiness and wellbeing. The College utilises this pathway to ensure that

each student’s learning is aligned to the relevant year level achievement standards, monitored and assessed

against those standards and reported.
